Fashion Programs at Toronto Area Schools

For those of you serious about a career in the fashion industry, the Greater Toronto Area offers many great programs ranging from fashion design to communications. Whether you're serious about it and ready commit to a multi-semester program or just exploring and looking for a quick course or a summer fashion camp, there's something available for all needs and tastes.

Ryerson University School of Fashion - Ryerson University, Toronto, ON

"The School of Fashion's aim is to provide career-oriented education at a degree level which will ultimately lead to professional careers for men and women in all industries related to fashion. Students of Ryerson's School of Fashion are prepared for a variety of careers in Fashion Communication and Fashion Design. The first year of the four-year program is common to all Fashion students. This foundation year is designed to give a general overview of the knowledge and skills applicable to all branches of the fashion industry. Introductory studies range from art history, textiles, clothing construction and pattern-making, design and colour, and fashion drawing. In addition, courses in liberal studies provide the broad foundation necessary for later specialization. In second year students begin their specialization in either: Fashion Communication or Fashion Design."

Fashion Arts - Seneca College - Toronto, ON

"Fashion Arts design and production is a three–year program which offers you a career–oriented education for the fashion industry. As a Fashion Arts student you will study textiles – both woven and knitted, the history of fashion, computer–aided design and production methods. Through field placement, design competitions and volunteering you have an opportunity to experience the industry, build connections and develop individual creativity and growth. As a student in the School of Fashion you have access to the Seneca Fashion Resource Centre, a collection of Canadian–worn garments and accessories. This collection offers you opportunities to enhance your studies of design, fabrics and construction techniques."

School of Fashion Studies - George Brown College, Toronto, ON

"Canada’s fashion capital is your classroom at the George Brown College School of Fashion Studies. From our campus near the fashion-forward hub of Spadina, you’ll have the opportunity to work with fashion designers, retailers, manufacturers, and distributors. Your program in fashion will teach you the design or business side of fashion, and could expose you to retail operations, wholesale management and import/export activities. Jewellery programs prepare you to work in the fine jewellery industry. Through the School of Fashion Studies, you can build your portfolio, showcase your unique talents at clothing and jewellery shows, and take your place in the world of apparel or jewellery."

Fashion Arts - Humber College, Toronto, ON

"Because fashion is an international business, our Fashion Arts program places an emphasis on retail operations from both domestic and international perspectives. You will study marketing, store planning and merchandising, brand management, cosmetic marketing, event planning and retail buying. Students also learn fashion trend forecasting, sales techniques, and colour and styling analysis, while attaining basic knowledge of fashion products and fashion promotion. These skills are then applied to product launches, planning merchandise assortments, styling fashion shoots, and the production of fashion events."

Coco Fashion Design Centre - Toronto, ON

"Coco Fashion Design Institute is a unique institution unlike other fashion schools. There is currently no other Private Career College that covers this type of education streams within the region. By developing the programs to be practical and intensive, this will help students to enter in the industry in shorter span of time as compared to other colleges."

Fashion Design (Camp) - Thinnox Design Academy - Mississauga, ON

"In this camp you will design a fashion ensemble and create a fashion prototype along with an accessory, using easy to use, industry standard, digital illustration and pattern making tools."
